Fully Cooked Chicken Sausage

Chicken sausage can be found in the produce section of your local supermarkets. No matter what fully cooked brand you purchase, double check the label to make sure the carbs are under 5 grams per link.

I used Sola Buns which are available at Wal-Mart, Kroger, Drug Emporium, and Rouses.

Mustard, mayo, etc.

FAQ.

Is chicken sausage gluten free?

I wish I could say 100% yes, but the honest answer is to view the ingredients on the label. Applegate chicken sausage is gluten free, but always, always double check the ingredients on the label.

Are there carbs in chicken sausage?

Well, to be honest, yes and no. Plain chicken sausage (which I always recommend purchasing) virtually has zero carbs, however, food companies are slick and will add in sugar and various ingredients to up the carb count. Please make sure to read the label on the chicken sausage you purchase.

Can I use frozen chicken sausage in the air fryer?

Yes! Just make sure to run the sausage (while still in the package) under hot water for about 30 seconds so you can remove it from the package. I would follow the same directions as above, but you may need to cook for a minute or two longer.

Are chicken sausages healthy?

You know me by now. The answer – read the label. If the chicken sausage is plain, it is a wonderful source of protein in the diet without any added sugar. Protein is important in any weight loss plan since it is found to have you eating LESS!  In a study published in Nutrition Metabolism, those who increased their protein intake to 30 percent of their diet ate 450 fewer calories a day and lost about 11 pounds over the 12-week study without doing anything else!

Can I use raw chicken sausage in this recipe?

This recipe is specifically for cooked chicken sausage. For raw, make sure the internal temperature for chicken sausage is at 165 degrees.

Do You Put Oil in An Air Fryer?

For this recipe, I do not use oil or oil spray. Oil in the air fryer is an interesting discussion. You can USE oil in air fryer recipes, but DO NOT pour oil in an air fryer basket. Look for high smoke point oil sprays for the air fryer. The best oil spray for air fryer is avocado oil since it’s smoke point is high and can handle the high temperature of the air fryer. You can use olive oil (I often use olive oil in the air fryer) if cooking at a slightly lower temperature 360 or less.
